Young Co-Operatives Face-to-Face Event

On the 9th June 2008 pupils from 6 schools in Hampshire spent the day learning about Fair Trade and took part in various workshops. The schools who took part in the day were Bellemoor School, Beaulieu Primary School, Bitterne Park School, Cantell School, St. Marks Primary School and Shirley Junior School.

The event was kindly hosted at Bellemoor School in Southampton and was organised by the Co-operatives College. Employees from Brown's Enterprise Education, Sci-hi, Virtual Schools also helped run the workshops.

The Co-op College in conjunction with Twin Trading, arranged for a group of visitors from Uganda, Mexico and Peru who all work in Co-operatives and small business producing and exporting Fair Trade products to the UK.

Seven workshops took place in the afternoon from video and audio to writing and music. Each group did a short presentation at the end of the day to show everyone what they had done in their workshop.

Pupils in the writing workshop were tasked to produce a number of news stories about Fair Trade producers, the coffee farmers’ lives and about the event itself. After listening to the Co-op speakers and the visitors in the morning and taking part in a question time they carried out further research and also interviewed the special guests on a one-to-one basis.

Their news reports will be published on the pupils own school websites and the Co-op website. Please click on the following links to read the news articles which were created…
