National Science and Engineering week

As a finale to the National Science and Engineering week at the University, 7a1 were invited to a talk called Why do Science? The talk was by Kathy Sykes, from TV's Rough Science, who turns out to be a pretty smart cookie; a PhD in Physics and a Professor of Science at Bristol University. Kathy told us how she had come to follow her own interest in explaining how, why, and what if, spurred on by her Mum and by her teachers.

Science had allowed her to follow her skills to fulfil her ambitions; to solve scientific problems, to talk and to listen to people, and to travel. The local science celebrity Ian B. Dunne provided an entertaining warm-up that got our science brains thinking. (Amazing what you can do with a loop of string and an electric motor!) The students really enjoyed the talk and outshone some of the other local schools present.

Thanks go to Mrs Silk for organising it.
