School Meals and Lunch Breaks
These are encouraged provided they are specifically related to the lesson material or the general direction of the course being followed by the pupils. The school operates a cash cafeteria system. Pupils may buy meals, or bring sandwiches for eating on the school premises, or go home. For the latter, parents are asked to give written permission and pupils are then issued with a lunch pass. Should a boy forget his school lunch, it can be handed in at the Front Office. Free school meals are provided on authorisation. If you think any of your children may be entitled to free school meals, please ask the School for an application form.
Bellemoor School Association (the BSA)
Parents are encouraged to join the BSA and to take part in and support its enjoyable activities. The highlights of the year's fund-raising are the Bellemoor Summer and Christmas Fayres.
Bellemoor on the Internet
We make daily use of the internet for both e - mail and the world wide web. Bellemoor has its own site on the world wide web and you can access this at: http://www.bellemoorschool.org
As well as information about the school we also have useful subject internet links on our web site.
Information & Communication Technology
We have been continuing to upgrade our systems to modern PC computers and this is nearly complete. All departments have computer access for curriculum and administration use. Every pupil and member of staff has their own network logon with individual storage area. Currently staff are receiving training in the use of ICT in their subject area
Lost Property
Articles found must be handed to a group tutor or handed in to the School Office. Articles lost should be reported immediately to the group tutor. Lost property may be claimed in the School Office at break or at 3.15pm.
Bicycles
Please note that bicycles may be brought to school on condition that they are roadworthy and ridden in a safe and proper manner and are insured. They must be secured with a strong lock in the bicycle sheds. It is recommended that parents check the bicycle is insured as it is brought to school at the owner's risk. Cycles
must not be ridden on the school premises. In the interests of safety boys must walk their bicycles in and out of school, and turn left on exit. Helmets should be worn and reflective or light coloured clothing.
Road Safety Policy
Road Safety is of the highest importance and we take every opportunity to promote and maintain the awareness and good safety habits of our boys. Boys should wear a helmet and in winter, reflective or brightly coloured clothing. Boys are expected to leave the school site in an orderly manner.
Theatre Visits
Our policy is to give as many boys as possible the chance to experience live theatre. We offer visits to theatres as far away as London or Stratford upon Avon. We also invite professionaltheatre companies to perform in school.
Education Visits
These are encouraged provided they are specifically related to the lesson material or the general direction of the course being followed by the pupils.
Trips Abroad
Boys from Bellemoor take part in successful and enjoyable trips abroad, to Germany, France and Spain.
Awards Evening
This is a formal occasion on which we celebrate achievement in all aspects of school life.
Presentation Evening for Yr 11
This event is a celebration of each student's achievements and contributions to the school. Each student is presented with his certificates by his form tutor - with a brief appreciation in each case. This family occasion is enjoyed by students, parents and staff and is followed by a 'ploughmans' supper.
Project Trident
We encourage boys in Years 9, 10 and 11 to take part in the three prongs of Project Trident: a personal challenge, community service and work experience. The personal challenge can be met in a variety of ways. For example, some boys have taken part in a 24 hour Army Experience, some have been windsurfing, some climbing, some caving, and so on.
Our boys are encouraged to participate in community service. They do conservation work at weekends, gardening for the elderly, collect money for the Carnival, care for the elderly, and take part in many sponsored events for charity. All boys have a work experience placement for a fortnight in Year 10. Almost all boys gain certificates for project Trident: the majority being Gold Certificates to record the achievement of all three prongs. These activities, most of which take place in their own time, are of great benefit to the community and are so important in developing character and attitudes.
Industry Day
Industry Day is an annual event to prepare Year 11 for transition to the work place. Boys select a job to apply for from a mock job vacancy list. Boys complete application forms. Representatives of commerce, industry, the police and armed services attend to carry out mock interviews with the boys. Training Providers attend to talk about modern apprenticeships. Boys have time at the end of the session to ask questions and to collect information. Representatives from Solent Skill Quest and the Employment Access Centre supported by Tauntons College run sessions on Application Forms / CVs and Interview Techniques.
