Application for Leave of Absense

FOR THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY HOLIDAY

Applications for leave of absence should generally be for a maximum of 10 school days for the purposes of an annual family holiday. Completed forms should be returned to the pupils Head of Year at least three weeks in advance of the planned holiday and before arrangements are confirmed.

Parents have a legal duty to ensure regular and punctual attendance by their son at school. The Headteacher has the discretion to grant up to 10 school days of authorised absence, in any academic year, for the purpose of a family holiday during term-time. This is not, however, an automatic entitlement.

The school is not prepared to authorise absence in the spring or summer terms of Year 9, commencing after the Christmas holidays, or at any time during Year 11. Absence at these crucial stages of education can have a serious impact on achievement.

Please also note the following:

Any requests for leave of absence that are not granted, but subsequently taken, will result in the absence being recorded as unauthorised. Unauthorised absence may result in the issue of a Penalty Notice to each parent, for each child absent.

Unauthorised absence may result in a referral to the Education Welfare Service and can lead to prosecution. If a pupil does not return to school on the agreed date and no communication is received from parents, the pupil may be removed from the school roll.

A copy of the School Attendance Policy can be obtained from the school office, which includes the arrangements for term-time leave of absence in more detail.
