Reducing our Carbon Footprint!
We have just received this information from 2ticks. Out of 52 schools across the country we have reduced our carbon footprint the most - and that’s out of the schools that use 2ticks. Many of those that don’t will be even higher!

Visit to a Sikh Gurdwara
On 4th June the Humanities department took boys from 7a2 and 7a4 to Gurdwara Nanaksar, a Sikh temple in Southampton. This visit complemented the work they have been doing about Sikhism and gave them the opportunity to ask questions and see religion as a real thing rather than something they read about in a textbook.   These kinds of visits are an opportunity to break down barriers and foster mutual understanding, which really sums up what Religious Studies is about. The boys were able to taste some prashad, a ceremonial sweet and then, much to their delight, the people from the Gurdwara provided them with lunch in the langar, a kitchen where vegetarian food is provided free for all people in order to uphold the principle of equality. The boys enjoyed lentil dhal, chapattis and rice pudding. Here are a selection of the thank you notes written by the boys: “Thank you for one of the best experiences of my life, you have made your religion a lot clearer to understand….my favourite part was everything; “Thanks for inviting us to your Gurdwara and sharing your food with us, despite us having different beliefs about God…; “Thank you for the lovely food!
Once again the students were a credit to our school, showing maturity and enthusiasm. Thank you also to Gurdwara Nanaksar for making us feel so welcome.

Sporting Achievements
The Year 8 cricket team beat Grove Park, bowling them out for 37 (Ed Moore 3 wickets for 0 runs, Will Moore 3 wickets for 1 run) and then scoring 40-1 off 5 overs (Sukbir Gill 34 not out). Well done!
There was more success for the cricket team who beat Cantell by 9 wickets, getting them all out for only 27 runs!
The U15 tennis team played the school’s first ever match in the Nestle BSTA Inter-Schools team competition and beat Mountbatten by 38 games to 32 in an excellent match.    Well played to Jordan Fallows, Luke Thaxter, Arshad Ibrahim and Liam Finlay.

Budding Reporters Wanted
