Parent/Teacher Consultation Evening, Thursday 22nd May 3.30-7.00 pm
This evening is for parents who want to speak to specific subject staff if there is a concern about their son. The boys were issued with appointment lists last week.

2 Heads team up for Breast Cancer
Our principal, Ms Ellins, teamed up with Ms Evans, the new headteacher of Cantell School, to put their best feet forward in a new era of cooperation between the 2 schools by taking part in the 26 mile marathon (the Moonwalk). Starting at midnight on 17th May they walked through the night in London clad in their bras in aid of breast cancer research. Many thanks to staff across Southampton who supported the gutsy duo! Any more donations should be sent to either head at either school.

Jaguar Maths National Semi-Final
9a1 have been competing in a tournament which uses mathematics to design cars for a Formula One race. This is an annual tournament run by Jaguar and consists of preliminary rounds leading to a National Final. In the knockout rounds held in February and March, Bellemoor team won the race for Southampton, successfully beating other competitors and winning a place in the national semi-finals. This means we were among the top 60 schools in the country from hundreds of entries! Niall Voller and Joshua Dobson, having the fastest time in Bellemoor, entered their car for the semi-final. They finished 16th out of 60 and unfortunately narrowly missed a place in the finals. Congratulations to 9a1 and Mr O’Connor for their hard work in competing so well and successfully piloting the competition for our school.

Careers
Back in February a group of Year 10 students attended the Construction and Built Environment Skills festival at the Rose Bowl. This was an opportunity for students to find out about the diverse range of careers, both trade and professional, within the construction industry. Many of the exhibitors provided hands-on activities to highlight the skills of their business.  Punnit Thakrar took part in a quantity surveying activity organised by Leadbitter. He successfully measured a building and established how many bricks it took to build it, and completed a word search linked to quantity surveying. During a recent house assembly, David Cook, the Regional Director of Leadbitter, presented Punnit with a pen and gift voucher for £30. Well done Punnit!

Year 10 Visit to Beaulieu Development Centre
“At Beaulieu we took part in various activities such as the leap of faith and low ropes. Many of the activities involved teamwork, courage and determination. The main thing I have learned was to work with other people who have different abilities and strengths which helped strengthen any weaknesses. I enjoyed the Leap of Faith the most because it tested my courage and trust in other people.

A huge well done to our Year 10 cricket team for beating Romsey School, previously unbeaten for 3 years!

Staff Achievements
Congratulations to Ms Woodall on completion of her Higher Level Teaching Assistant course. The assessor came in last week and so she is waiting for her results but she has worked really hard and we are sure she will do well.
