Holiday Discount Scheme with Thomas Cook
HOLIDAY DISCOUNT SCHEME School Information
Southampton City Council's Education Welfare Service has teamed up with Thomas Cook to offer parents of school age children the opportunity of saving up to 10% off their next holiday.
Thomas Cook can offer 10% off their tour operator holidays and a minimum of 5% discount on any other holiday sold through Thomas Cook. However, this only applies for holidays taken in school holiday time.
Thomas Cook are also able to offer good deals on flights and Foreign Currency in the participating stores.
The Local Authority recognises that it is often expensive to take a holiday during school breaks and that is why some parents may ask for term time leave for their child. However, it is important that parents carefully consider the implications of taking their children out of school during term time.
By law parents do not have the right to take their children out of school for holidays and schools do not have to give permission. Young people taken out of a school struggle to catch up on work. A two week holiday can mean 50 hours of missed learning.
90% attendance may seem positive, but it means missing 1 HALF DAY A WEEK, this equals a WHOLE HALF YEAR of Secondary school education.
The Education Welfare Service and the School feel it is an extremely worthwhile campaign and are pleased to be able to help increase school attendance at the same time as giving a helping hand to families who may struggle to afford a family holiday.
Simply fill in the claim form in the leaflet, arrange for it to be signed by the school and take it along to the participating Thomas Cook Stores to claim your discount.

Therefore we have teamed up with Thomas Cook to offer a 10% discount on any Thomas Cook tour operator holiday and at least 5% off other holidays sold through Thomas Cook. Also ask in store about discounts on flights, British Holidays and Foreign Currency.
THIS OFFER ONLY APPLIES TO HOLIDAY TIME
PLEASE REMEMBER:
• Fill in a leave of absence form well in advance of any holidays (it is down to the Head Teachers discretion whether the leave is authorised)
• Arrange family holidays and extended trips to coincide with school holidays wherever possible
• It is a legal requirement to send your child to school and unauthorised absence may result in a £50 Penalty Notice or Prosecution.
• Research shows that children taken out of school may never catch up on coursework they have missed and they may not achieve their potential.
