Premises Committee

Membership:

 

Shall not be less than four governors (of whom will be the Chair of the Governing Body) plus the Headteacher. The committee members may make recommendations to the Governing Body for co-option of associate members, one of whom will be the Health and safety Governor. The School Business Manager will also be invited to attend all meetings.

 

Quorum

 

The meeting will be quorate when 3 governors are in attendance.

 

Meetings:

 

At least once per term, prior to the secondly termly Governing Body meeting, and otherwise as required.

 

Terms of Reference:

 

  1. To provide support and guidance for the Headteacher and school staff on all matters relating to the premises, grounds and security.

  2. To monitor and review key priorities relating to Premises on an annual basis and to make representation as appropriate to the Governing Body with regard to key proposals to be incorporated within the longer term strategy forming part of the School Development Plan (Asset management and Enhancement).

  3. To inspect the premises and grounds annually and prepare a statement of priorities for maintenance and development for the approval of the Governing Body.

  4. To ensure the lettings and charging policy is reviewed annually.

  5. To ensure that any necessary liaison with the LA regarding premises issues is undertaken as necessary and appropriate.

  6. In conjunction with the Health and Safety Governor:

    • To ensure that the school complies with health and safety regulations and assist the Headteacher and Governing Body to discharge their duties in collaboration with the LA

    • To consider the LA’s policies on health and safety and recommend to the Governing Body a policy for the school

    • To ensure that the necessary school management organisation is in place to implement the policy

    • To monitor the effectiveness of the school’s health and safety arrangements, make periodic inspections of buildings, plant and equipment, and report annually to the Governing Body.
