Programme of Study

Term 1                        What is History?

                                  The Roman Empire

Terms 2 & 3                Medieval Realms, 1000-1500

                                  The Greeks (Term 2)

Teaching Techniques

The emphasis is on active investigation of historical problems.  Pupils are encouraged to develop a questioning attitude to the past and the way it is presented.  Use is made of a wide variety of source material involving local, national and international issues.  The use of re-enactment role-play is becoming an active part of study.

Resources

The Department has a wide variety of books, pamphlets and other printed resources, which include videos, pictures, slides, posters and artefacts.  We also make use of historical resources in the local area.

Homework

Homework is set each week.  It may take a wide range of forms.  The aim is to extend and develop classroom work with interesting and demanding activities.  All students have the opportunity to build a model castle.
