Homework
There will be a minimum of one homework per week. Homework tasks vary widely; they may include:
Books relating to the course may be found in the Geography section of the school library or within the department.
Ways in which parents can help
Your son relies on your interest and encouragement. You can help by making sure that he reads as much and as widely as possible at home, and that the school and local library are used.
There are many attractive reference books to buy or borrow relating to the geographical topics. Books relating to Natural Environments, Landscapes and the weather may be especially useful.
You can improve your son's written work by discussing ideas with him and by going over the spelling, punctuation and presentation and by making sure that he checks through the work himself.
Visits to the Commonwealth Institute, Geological Museum, to the London Museum and the appropriate rooms of the British Museum are of great interest.
Feel free to write your own comments and notes to the teacher in your son's exercise book.
The course involves regular self-assessment by the pupils, as well as assessment by the staff, and this will provide you with a good opportunity to discuss your son's overall progress with him and to make your own comments on the assessment form.
Fieldwork
Any fieldwork that is carried out in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be local in its emphasis and will incur little or no cost.
