Achievement at each level is divided into three categories:
c. Just into this level; meeting some of the criteria, some of the time.
b. Meeting most of the criteria, most of the time.
a. Clearly working at this level; meeting the criteria fully and consistently.
There are four strands to my assessment:
Level 1
Using and applying Mathematics
I can recognise simple patterns or relationships.
I can represent my work with objects and pictures and talk about it.
I can use mathematics as a part of a classroom task.
Number and Algebra
I can read and write numbers.
I can add and subtract numbers using a small number of objects.
I can count and order numbers.
Shape, Space and Measure
I can measure and order objects using comparison.
I can describe 3-D shapes using everyday language.
I can describe 2-D shapes using everyday language.
Handling Data
I can explain how to classify.
I can classify objects.
I can sort objects.
Level 2
Using and applying Mathematics
I can explain why I think my answer is correct.
I can talk about my work and ask questions using correct mathematical language, and I am beginning to represent it using symbols and simple diagrams.
I can select the Mathematics to use in an activity.
Number and Algebra
In my head I can solve number problems involving money and measures.
I can recognise sequences including odd and even numbers.
I can solve whole number problems involving addition and subtraction.
I can count objects and can add and subtract small numbers in my head.
I can order numbers up to 100.
Shape, Space and Measure
I have begun to use everyday non-standard and standard units to measure length and mass.
I can distinguish between straight lines and turning movements.
I can understand that angle is a measurement of turn, and recognise right angles in turns.
I can use mathematical names for common 2-D shapes and describe their properties, including numbers of sides and corners.
I can use mathematical names for common 3-D shapes and describe their properties including number of sides and corners.
Handling Data
I can record results in simple databases.
I can construct tables and block graphs.
I can sort objects and classify them using more than one criteria.
Level 3
Using and applying Mathematics
I can investigate general statements by trying out some examples.
I can organise my work and check results.
I can explain my thinking.
I can use and interpret Mathematical symbols and diagrams.
I can find ways of overcoming difficulties when solving problems.
Number and Algebra
I can solve problems involving multiplication and addition.
I can use fractions and I know when two fractions are equivalent.
I can use decimals and I can use negative numbers to describe temperature.
I know and can use the 2,3,4,5, and 10 times tables.
I can read, write and order numbers up to 1000. In my head I can add and subtract facts to 20 in solving problems involving larger numbers.
I can add and subtract two digit numbers in my head and three digit numbers on paper.
Shape, Space and Measure
I can use non-standard units.
I can use standard metric units of lenths.
I can use standard metric units of capacity and mass.
I can use standard units of time.
I can classify 3-D shapes using mathematical properties.
I can classify 2-D shapes in various ways using mathematical properties such as reflective symmetry.
Handling Data
I can interpret information from bar charts and pictograms.
I can construct bar charts and pictograms using symbols.
I can interpret information from simple tables.
