HOMEWORK POLICY TO CHANGE AT KS3!

One of the school’s main foci for the future is to develop life long learners. We will have a dedicated curriculum in year 7 for ‘learning to learn’; every teacher will be promoting and developing the five thinking skills through our ‘leading in learning’ initiative, and as of September, throughout KS3 we will be launching the P2i’s (Passports to Independence)

The P2i programme is out of school hours learning which will be replacing our current homework policy. Each subject sets a project based activity for students to complete for a certain number of weeks every term or half-term. The tasks are introduced in lesson time and staff will provide a 'stepping-stone'  guidance to help students complete the tasks.

Staff may also set short learning tasks in addition to their main P2I tasks. These tasks will be set to assist the learning of students and help them prepare for internal and external assessments. These will also be recorded in the student’s diaries.

PASSPORT TO INDEPENDENCE (P2I): AIMS

  • To stretch and challenge all students
  • To improve students’ attitude to out of college hours learning
  • To develop students’ skills in lifelong learning
  • To allow students to become more responsible for their own learning
  • To prepare students for GCSE coursework and study in Key stage 4

Deadlines for tasks are staggered throughout the term to assist students and staff in managing their workloads effectively.

The tables below highlights approximately how long students should spend on their P2I tasks:
